Radikal Guru: "Reggae scene in Poland has really a lot to offer"

Radikal Guru na gostovanju u Zagrebu

Prvi dio ovogodišnjeg Wintersplasha je iza nas. U Medici izvrsno smo se zabavili uz poljskog producenta Radikal Gurua uz mnoštvo domaćih snaga. Radikal Guru nam je dao post intervju, pročitajte njegova viđenja nastupa u Hrvatskoj, o poljskoj reggae sceni, o budućim izdanjima...A 8. ožujka nas očekuje drugo poluvrijeme Wintersplasha u Sirupu uz Egolessa, Dubble i Rahmaneea.

Reggae hr: You're here in Croatia at least once a year. It must be that you like it partying here?
Radikal Guru: Yes I’m here very often, mostly on festivals. I did Outlook twice (2010. and 2013.), once Seasplash (2011.) and now toured around clubs for the second time since 4 years. I really love it here, people I met in these last few years are always very kind to me and they make me feel very much like home. Maybe it’s also because of some culture similarities, we are all slavic people at the end and we like to drink too :)

Reggae hr: As somebody who is here so often, do you know about some Croatian dub acts? Is there someone who impressed you with his music?
Radikal Guru: Of course veterans like Radikal Dub Colectiv are first to come to my mind, also Bamwise and Dubble. Last time in Zagreb I also heard new live band Waitapu. I also have to mention producers like Egoless and 207 who recently specially drew most of my attention. I’m also really looking forward to hear upcoming compilation Seasplash ritam with lot’s more good music from Croatia. I’m really glad to see big progress on the dub and bass music scene. Keep it up!

Reggae hr: You've released new album recently. What are the impressions after first few months promoting it on the dancefloors?
Radikal Guru: Yes, so far I’m receiving really positive feedback from people at the shows. There’s good reaction to the new tunes and I’m happy to see a lot more people coming to the shows this year.

Reggae hr: Dub has Radikal Guru and dancehall/digital reggae has Dreadsquad. It seems like Poland is coming to the big league of reggae. Are there some other Polish acts witch can stand side by side with you two?
Radikal Guru: Reggae scene in Poland has really a lot to offer and there’s definitely plenty of potential that needs to be explored. There is quite a lot of movement on the local scene, reggae music is very popular at the moment. I hope in a few years we will see more acts making their way to the international scene.

Reggae hr: As an artist and DJ, wich do you like more, performing and seeing people enjoying your music or creating, composing and producing at studio?
Radikal Guru: I guess like most artist’s, musicians etc. I mostly enjoy process of creating and composing but you get most satisfaction when you see people’s reaction to your art. It’s very rewarding to see that something that you created brings people joy.

Reggae hr: After releasing album, you will continue releasing music with one great remix of Zion Train wich will be released on Moonshine Recordings compilation. After that, is there still some plans for future releases?
Radikal Guru: There will be a few more releases this year, mainly remixes. I recently finished a remix for Gentelman’s Dub Club and another one for popular 80’s UK reggae label Fashion Recordings that will also be put out a compilation. I’m also planning to release another single with one of the songs from the new album. Will start announcing it soon so keep eyes and ears open for some info.
