Jonah Dan (Alpha & Omega): "Reggae music is a part of my life"

Intervju s britanskim dub legendama

Christine: Hello, I'm Christine from Alpha & Omega, UK, London, come to do a session here in Zagreb and we're looking forward to this session.
Paul Fox: Hello, I'm Paul Fox from Shades of Black also from UK. We are looking forward to this session in Zagreb, so far Croatia has been lovely. Nice to be here.
Jonah Dan: I'm Jonah Dan from Inner Sanctuary Records also Shades of Black. Greetings and love to each and every one right here so, seen, Croatia bless!
Dan I: Greetings. Blessed love, it is Dan I from the Imperial Sound army and Imperial Roots Records as well, coming from Italy. Very nice to be here. Blessed love.

Croreggae: Before Alpha&Omega started you were playing with John in another band?
Christine: Yes, we were called Crucial Steps. We were just a little band, there were five, six of us and it didn't last. (laugh)

Croreggae: Before your first album you taped only dubs?
Christine: Basically, we make dub. We are dub musicians, but we work with singers, so, that's really what we do.

Croreggae: How come you perform without John?
Christine: John is very intelligent but he can't deal with people somehow. Only my brother, some of his family and that's it. When it came to the live thing I waited for many years trying to say John 'you must do this and this' but he is just working in studio and now we work over the internet. He sends me tunes and then I do something - after, we go to his place where we work in the studio now and then. He does his work mostly on his computer.

Croreggae: How did Alpha&Omega get with Jonah, Paul and Dan I?
Paul Fox: I was invited to one of their shows in Paris last year. From time to time, if the dates match and if there is the opportunity for me to go along with A&O  then I go along. That's my involvement.
Jonah Dan: Most of the times I work with A&O, also Disciples and some times with Bush Chemist. For five years I've been working with A&O and we're just progressing from there. Meeting more people, more brethren, folding together.
Dan I: It was a blessing to get in touch with Christine, Paul Fox and Jonah. It's a very nice opportunity to work together, cause, actually I'm coming from Italy and it's a pleasure to join A&O that I was listening to when I was just a youth.

Croreggae: What about Imperial Sound Army?
Dan I: It started from 2000. At the beginning it was a sound system then we tried to make a band but it did not work out because it was difficult to deal with five different people. Now we have our own label which is called Imperial Roots Records, we do our own production and promotion. Personally, I released "17" with Ras Muffet.

Croreggae: Jonah Dan, you are a kind of veteran in reggae business. How did you get involved with reggae?
Jonah Dan: Reggae music is a part of my life. My parents are musicians so I carried from there. I started in 70's, formed my own studio in early 90's, got my own label and now we are here in Croatia promoting our thing.

Croreggae: Paul, you had an opportunity to work with Michael Rose. How did that cooperation happen?
Paul Fox: There was I, a friend of mine, the guy from The Outsider that hooked me up with Michael Rose and asked him if he would come and record a tune in my studio under the name Shades of Black and he agreed. It was great to work with him. He is a fantastic singer, one of my favorite singers actually. We did a tune called Babylon Kingdom Fall on Johnas label Inner Sanctuary and there was another single named Cease Fire by Michael Rose.

Croreggae: How would you describe your music?
Christine: For me it means to communicate with oneness and the unity and coming back to your divine self and tune people with their consciousness. There is a mystical side of how I deal with music so it uplifts people and reconnects them with oneness.
